Event Strategy and Services Intern
AARP I Washington, D.C. I June - August 2017
As an intern for the AARP Brand Event Strategy and Services department, the majority of the work I did was for the external and internal events teams. The external team focuses on brand awareness, and their main summer events were part of the AARP Block Party traveling exhibit. In preparation for each Block Party, I sat in on weekly meetings to discuss the event flow and logistics. I created staff briefing documents, social media surveys and worked with the communications team to come up with copy points for paid media. I worked on-site at two out of the five Block Parties, in Detroit and Seattle. After each event, I created event recap and media reports. For the internal team, I did everything from researching and contacting venues, to setting up and working on-site at events. I gained experience by walking through event spaces and discussing event flow, logistics, budget, proposals and catering with clients.
Event Coordinator Intern
FINRA I Washington, D.C. I May - August 2016
My primary project at FINRA was the planning and execution for the Annual Summer Conference. I assisted with all aspects of coordinating the catering, logistics and registration for the event. In selecting the venue and vendors, I performed vendor research to mitigate risk and meet budget expectations. I also managed speaker coordination and ground transportation. I collected bios and head-shots to create presentations for the conference. I also worked on-site at a variety of different events, including a series of retirement celebrations for the former CEO. In addition to working for the events team, I supported the communications department, created weekly polling questions for the company website, and traveled to New York City with the team to create media coverage on an event.
Cat Cay Yacht Club I Cat Cay, Bahamas I December 2016 & May 2017
Over winter break and Memorial Day weekend, I directed activities and special events for Cat Cay Yacht Club members. I assisted in the planning and preparation for the Cat Cay Olympics, children's Memorial Day party, New Year's Eve celebration and the week-long kids' camp. I worked on-site at each event, directing the flow of activities and supporting on-site activities and logistics.
Journalist Research Assistant
Pride & Glory Ventures I Auburn, Alabama I April 2015
For Pride and Glory Ventures, I wrote a column to be featured in Women's Wear Daily promoting their product. Through research, interviews and experience, I gathered information about events, lifestyle habits and interests that college students enjoy. I then took that information and geared it toward how Pride and Glory products would fit right in the college atmosphere.
